District Report – Jan/Feb 2018

Happy New Year to all from Superstition District.!

We’re so sorry that we were having so much fun that we missed the deadline for the last Patriot edition….Oops!

Our Second Annual Car and Bike show was another big success. Many thanks to Dawn Kackley for all her hard work in putting the event together as well as to the fabulous Joan Wells and her staff at Mesa Market Place, our dedicated sponsor San Tan Ford, and everyone who pitched in and made it a success.

November saw our Inaugural Chili Cook Off, with thirteen scrumptious entries…Yum!
Everyone showed up to cast their votes for the favorites. Dan Beyer won First Place, Jeanette Mcaffee took Second, and Lea Cervi picked up the Third Place prize! Sally Hawkins won the 50/50, and everyone went home full and happy!!

Thank you to all the participants, the Chandler Elks Riders and all our fabulous supporters.

Our Christmas Party was also held at the Chandler Elks Lodge, with a new toy as the cost of admission.

All of our guests feasted on ham, turkey and all the fixins!!!

All toys, gifts and the proceeds of the 50/50 went to the FANS Across America Charity.
FANS is a Chandler, Arizona based vital resource in the continuum of service to Homeless Students, Homeless Families in Transition, Victims and Children of Domestic Violence.

Transitioning Families / Homeless Students and Domestic Violence Victims are referred to FANS from Community Based Social Service Agencies, Chandler and East Valley Unified School Districts, Domestic Violence Shelters, East Valley Veterans Administration, Law Enforcement Victims Services and other agencies who assist Families in Transition.
Thank you to all the volunteers at FANS .

According to Linae Stoner we raised over $100 in cash and over 93 presents for the organization.

Thank you the Chandler Elks, Dawn Kackley and Sally Hawkins for the wonderful gift baskets, and to everyone who helped make this a success!

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year!

District Report – July/August 2017

Greetings from Superstition district! Well the heat is on … please make sure you drink plenty of water. .. myself, you’ll find me up in Strawberry at the Beyer cabin, hangin’ out with friends and Rim Country MMA.

There will be no July Meeting. Our next meeting will be in August, the 1ST Sunday of the month, at 10:30 a.m., at the Chandler Elks Lodge.

Look forward to seeing everyone there!

Thanks to our hard-working membership, we’ve been keeping ourselves busy and productive since our last article.

Our 2nd Annual Kick off to May is Motorcycle Awareness Poker Run was a great success.

We had double the bikes that we had last year; great weather, tons of raffle prizes, and we raised over $1200 for the Modified Motorcycle Association.

Registration, breakfast and first card were at Brick and Barley. Second, third and fourth stops were The Trough, River Bottom, and San Tan Flats, with Jolie’s Place being the end point and after party.

Prize winner included Bob Weber for the 50/50, Carla Morrison with the High Hand, and John Blackmore, Low Hand, We want to express our great appreciation to The Arizona Grand Hotel for their generous donation of a hotel stay and dinner, as well as to Bob Johnston from San Tan Ford for his sponsorship of our event.

We hope to enjoy the patronage of these two great Valley businesses for future events, and encourage all of our brothers and sisters in the motorcycle community to show their support of them, too.

Our first Thirsty Thursday took place on May 18th, KSU from Jolie’s at 7:00 with our destination being House of Tricks in downtown Tempe.

The staff had a table ready for us on the patio that gave the feel of sitting in a garden; the bar was even more remarkable, with trees growing through the bar itself.

This restaurant is an old Tempe home, restored and repurposed, and very interesting.

We had a great dinner with excellent, company and with many thanks to the dessert sharers at our table!

The next SD Thirsty Thursday will be July 15th, again KSU at 7:00 from Jolie’s.

The participants of the first dinner ride all offered suggestions for the next one.

These were written down and then one of the names was drawn at June’s meeting. It looks like we’ll be headed to Riazzi’s Italian Garden for our next dinner.

Anyone who would like to have input on the destination for the following month will need to be present at Riazzi’s to offer a suggestion.

If you want your favorite place to be in the running, make sure to be at the dinner ride!

May also saw Superstition District hold two Motorcycle Awareness events, one at a local library and one at a group meeting for adolescent girls.

All materials were eagerly received and some interesting conversation took place, focused on the need to be aware of motorcycles on the road near cars and other vehicles.

Please make a note that our Bike and Car show will be coming up in October. The Mesa Swap Meet near Signal Butte road will again host our event.

Our people are hard at work coordinating with Mesa Swap Meet to make this show even better than our first one.

Stay tuned as the details come out, and be sure to enter your favorite ride in the competition.

Thank you again to all the people in the MMA and the motorcycle community for supporting Superstition District.

District Report – May/June 2017

Spring has sprung with a boom in the Valley of the Sun! Superstition District has gripped the explosion of activities and didn’t look back!

Everyone loves a party, and no one throws a better one than Desert Wind Harley Davidson in Mesa. On a regular basis they host their Sat-urday Party on the Patio, providing music, food and fun.

Biker groups are invited to run the cook shack and can them keep all tips and donations for their organization. Superstition District jumped on that opportunity, and thanks to
our fantastic volunteers TeeKay and Jim who cooked burgers and dogs, JoAnne, Lea, and
Boomer who served, and all the others who pitched in where needed and made our party
the outstanding time it was!

We appreciated our brave brothers and sisters from Rim Country District who didn’t let a little cold weather stop them from coming down to support us. And a big thanks to all the other riders who came out to show their support. As a district, we raised about $400 for the Modified Motorcycle Association

Riding for the Long Haul, sponsored by AMSAF, took place early in March and our district was proud to support and make our presence known. This was a fun event, full of vendors and exhibitions, at a great venue, the Shriners Auditorium. Thanks you to AMSAF for
all you do to promote motorcycle safety and awareness in our state.

Superstition District has been happy to welcome several of the Elks Riders from Post 2429
to our ranks. In true biker spirit, it’s important to show our support for them as well and now Dan Beyer and Sally Hawkins are proud to be Elks Riders, too. If you are an Elks member, come check out this great group of people at 7:00
p.m. on the second Monday of every month for their meeting.

Our district has had some personnel changes this month. It is with great sadness that we say good-bye to Tammy Springsteen as our Activities Officer. Although she will stay active as a member, personal issues make it impossible for her to continue in the role of planning and implementing activities.

We thank her sincerely for all her hard work and dedication, and send best wishes to her and her family. At this time, Coordinator, and Cindy McKenzie will take on the role of acting quartermaster.
More changes bloomed in our district with a change in meeting locale. We are now meeting at the Chandler Elks Lodge #2429, 1775 West Chandler Boulevard, Chandler, Az, 85224. Please come join us the first Sunday of every month at 10:30 a.m.

Membership continues to blossom as well. Currently we have 144 members.

We are thankful to our new and to our continuing members for making Superstition stronger and stronger.

Greetings from Superstition district!

We had our first motorcycle event and it was a great learning experience and a whole lotta fun. We called it our Annual “Kick off to May is Motorcycle Awareness Run.”

We started off with beautiful weather, as the day progressed; we rode through wind, then dust, and finally rain. It was still a great ride and it was nice to get everyone together and spend some social and seat time together.

Dan & Sally

We ended our ride at Jolies Place for some patio therapy, great music with George, raffles, 50/50 and the poker run winner.

Yours truly won the best hand (no it wasn’t rigged), and New member Jim Bissen won the GO PRO.

Camille Hasler, our fabulous Secretary, volunteers for the PAWS2READ program with her trusty American Pit Bull Terrier, “Raven” (a therapy dog) .

Children ages 5-13 read to her dog. The kids love the dog, the dog loves the kids…it’s a win win!!! . It’s an ongoing event that is held at the Ironwood Library in Phoenix.

During one of her PAWS2READ events last month, she took time to talk to the children and the adults about motorcycle awareness. Camille Handed out coloring books, bumper stickers, key chains, etc… and fielded questions from adults and children about Motorcycles.

Thanks Camille Great job!

Our activity Director, Tammy Springsteen, is doing a super job!

She is currently putting together a car and bike show at the mesa swap meet. So far we have had incredible enthusiasm from everyone involved.

We have 12 committee member volunteers…wow! So look for our MMA Superstition District Car and Bike Show October  1st. It’s going to be a Blast!

Our District continues to grow, our June meeting saw over 30 members in attendance. We are adding new members every Month, we are closing in on that magic 100 number, and by the time of this printing we should be there… by this time next year???
