Well the holidays are quickly approaching, and so is the next legislative session.
We are ready to go.
Last year we ran a senate bill to increase the Sunset Date of both the Motorcycle Safety Fund and the Arizona Motorcycle Safety Awareness Counceil (AMSAC). Due to circumstances beyond our control, that bill was held up on the House Floor.
This upcoming session, MMA, ABATE, and ACMC lobby teams are running a bill to re-establish the Motorcycle Safety Fund, eliminate the motorcycle council, and add Motorcycle Training to the list of things our money can be used for.
This is a good thing. Originally the council was necessary as a forum to clarify our objectives and communicate effectively with the director of the GOHS. As our needs have changed, and based on statistical review, we have determined that our funds are more effectively used for rider education through AMSAF scholarships.
The GOHS will continue to keep a stock of the materials the MRO’s and ACMC members use to promote safety throughout Arizona, especially in the Month of May. These items include bumper stickers, key chains, tri-folds, pencils and well as other handouts.
Please don’t forget to mark your calendars for Motorcycle Day At The Dome. The 2017 event will be held Wednesday February 15th.
We need ALL of you to attend.
This is our opportunity to have lunch with our legislators and talk to them about our issues. As always, 17th Avenue between Washington and Jefferson, the entire length of the Capitol, will be blocked off for motorcycle parking. Vehicles can park in one of two lots, directly across the street. Your lobbyists cannot do this without you! So be there!
